Cascade Environmental Education Centre

Cascade EEC

Our centre is part of the NSW Department of Education’s Environmental Education Centres network. We help students and teachers learn about the environment, sustainability and nature through hands-on learning.

Our environment

Our centre is situated in the tiny village of Cascade surrounded by rainforest, 22 kilometres north-east of Dorrigo, NSW.

We use the local environment to make learning active, enjoyable and linked to real life. Outdoor learning helps students feel more connected to nature.

Working with schools

We work with all NSW public and non-government schools. Schools can book our centre for our co-curricular learning programs.

Learning programs

We run hands-on programs for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Our programs link to what students are learning in class and can be changed to suit their needs.

Many of our programs also include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. Students learn about culture, Country and how to care for the environment.

Our staff are trained teachers who are experts in environmental education. They guide students through real-world learning experiences that are active and engaging. Students get to explore, ask questions and think about the world around them.

Our programs include:

  • day trips to our centre or nearby beaches, National Parks and natural areas
  • visits to schools
  • camp excursions.

Teacher support

We also support teachers with:

  • helpful teaching resources
  • support with planning lessons and programs
  • spaces for staff professional learning and student workshops.

We are situated on Gumbaynggirr country in the beautiful cool temperate rainforest of Cascade, 22 kilometres north east of Dorrigo, NSW.

Rewewable Energy

One of the best actions we can take as a society to reduce our impact on the environment is to reduce our carbon emissions is to create or energy using renewable sources.

Get our Cascade staff to come to your school and work with your students on the topic of renewable energy. During the day we will explore what energy is, compare renewable and non-renewable energy production, explore forms of energy, experiment with solar energy and circuits and design and test a wind-turbine....Who will create the most electricity for free?!
